Old Fraud Makes Rounds Again, Deceiving Many

(The Three Provinces: 86 Lirisa 354)

About 2 and a half years ago, a fraud by the name of Spidera came to the people of Shard posing as a high level mage with visions of the future for the Realms.

She nearly got away with it, too, so convincing was her performance.

Suddenly, we are faced with more troubled times again, and some one has the poor sense to recirculate all her lies.

Then, there were rumors of a Great War with Teiro (or Tiero depends on how you want it spelled) that were running rampant around the Realms. She knew of this, and fed from it.

Speaking great dooms on us, with awful tales of woe and utter destruction, people were overcome by the images her words conjured in their minds.

But then she was challenged by Demosel and Grell both, and shown as a fraud publicly. A story was even written up here at the Wren’s Nest about it — read up on it if you like.

Believe it or not, as intelligence from afar brings back the actual bad news to those of us in the Three Provinces, someone is circulating the same old lies of Spidera again.

This time, they’re leaving off the Teiro slant, and freshening up the story to make it sound current.

Spidera was a fraud. She admitted it in front of the very people she had tried to hookwink.

So when you hear about dire prophecies and so-called inside information, or sure sources, find out if Spidera’s name is attached. Compare what you hear to what our own moon mages say is happening. They’ll know first, ill-founded rumors will not bring us advance notice.

(Some of the Spidera-started rumors have included empaths not being able to break links, creatures brough into subdue us that can only be affected by mental blast or guardian spirits, acidic sewer waters and terrible eels with them, flooding the city, alchemical potions being required to protect your armor, weapons, instruments, talismans, etc. And more.)

They are false. It was fraud on the people, and if you hear someone repeating any of this, let them know the source.

Perhaps the Gorbesh themselves have planted these lies to scare us, or throw us off the real track.

It is not time to be listening to lies. It is time to be getting ready to defend our cities, our loved ones, ourselves.

Baresh started working at the Wren’s Nest when it first opened in 349AL. He’s been hearing the news and pouring drinks ever since then.
